Minnedosa
The beautiful valley and hills, the Little Saskatchewan River and Minnedosa Lake combine to make our community an oasis on the prairie. But Minnedosa is much more than just a beautiful Manitoba town!
Minnedosa has a diversified rural economy with a strong agricultural base. The Minnedosa Chamber of Commerce is proud to have over 100 members representing virtually every economic sector. Many of these businesses export their products and services around the region and, indeed, around the globe. With the production of ethanol and bio diesel, as well as wind energy developments, Minnedosa is quickly becoming the renewable energy capital of Manitoba! Other businesses are leaders in the manufacturing, export and service industries. Minnedosa is a great place to do business!
Minnedosa is truly a full-service community. The town boasts a wide variety of retail shops and services, comfortable accommodations and restaurants to suit any taste. The Main Street is a showcase for our business community, with many historical buildings, parks, and sweeping valley views. The Business Improvement Committee of the Chamber of Commerce has worked closely with the Town of Minnedosa and many local organizations to undertake the beautification of Main Street, with new parks and “street-scaping” that highlights our local heritage.
Minnedosa is a community that is committed to life-long learning. Primary and Secondary School needs are met in the Minnedosa area by Tanner’s Crossing School and Minnedosa Collegiate. Minnedosa Collegiate is the area’s grade 9 to 12 school. With enrollment in excess of 240 students there are 24 professional and support staff, offering academic courses as well as Auto Mechanics, Art, Band, French, and a variety of other courses. In addition, Rolling Rover School Division operates an Adult Learning Centre in the community.
A unique feature of Minnedosa Collegiate is the Student Council Wall of Fame. It was created by MCI students for the purpose of honouring MCI students in the areas of academics, athletics and school service. Any individual student awarded a plaque on the Wall of Fame has been nominated and chosen by a vote of all students in the school. School teams reaching the provincial level of competition will automatically be placed on the Wall of Fame. The full cost of, and responsibility for, creating and maintaining the Wall of Fame is borne by the students, through the Student Council.
MCI offers a wide variety of sports and extracurricular activities for students to participate in including: golf, soccer, volleyball, basketball, curling, hockey, badminton, rugby, baseball, track and field. Extracurricular activities include: Student Council, yearbook committee, Teens Against Drunk Driving, Credit Union Youth Board, Office and Library lunch helpers, peer tutoring and mentorship programs.
The team at Minnedosa Collegiate continually demonstrate their ability to nurture great kids.
